In 2011, the couple left their home in Tolima, where armed conflict had placed their family under considerable strain and risk, and exchanged their 13 hectare farm for a smaller seven hectare property in Pitalito, southern Huila.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir new beginning brought its own challenges. The farm's original Caturra planting was devastated by coffee leaf rust in 2015, prompting Bolney to sell much of the land and replant with Castillo. Disappointed by the variety's yields and cup quality, the couple took a different approach by investing in exceptional Arabica cultivars with the potential to express the character of their land.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a bold move, they sold four hectares of their remaining seven to finance the replanting of the other three with three distinctive varieties: Pink Bourbon, Geisha and Pacamara.
