This variety is a natural cross between Maragogype and Gesha that took place at Luis Aníbal's farm in 2016. Luis Aníbal noticed two atypical trees in his lot of Gesha, right next to his lot of Maragogype. He then decided to harvest the cherries only from these trees and separate them to prepare them differently. The result was incredible – a perfect cup mix between Maragogype and Gesha. In addition, the shape of the grain was a mixture of these two varieties.
Maragesha is characterised by floral notes, cherry aromas, and intense notes of caramel, with a subtle citrus touch reminiscent of sweet lime. Felipe Arcila, owner of Jardines del Encanto and co-founder of Cofinet, met Luis Aníbal in 2015. During this period, Felipe, together with the Cofinet team, supported Luis Aníbal in improving his processing methods for high-quality micro-batches. This included exploring techniques such as prolonged fermentation, honey treatments, and natural methods.
Felipe had the opportunity to taste the Maragesha and fell in love with the cup profile. He recognised the immense potential of this strain so in 2021 Luis Aníbal shared some seeds with him, which he then planted in Jardines del Encanto.
Grown at a higher altitude of 2,050 masl, Maragesha de Jardines del Encanto thrives in a high altitude area, cultivated with meticulous care and using the best agricultural practices.
