Botón de Oro is a five-hectare farm in Santa Cruz, Turrialba, Costa Rica, situated at 1,500masl. Since 2022, the farm has been owned by Darius, co-owner of Kolibri Coffee Roasters, and his mother, who share a vision of producing coffees that combine exceptional quality with regenerative farming practices.

Nestled on the fertile volcanic slopes surrounding Turrialba Volcano, the farm benefits from cool mountain temperatures, abundant rainfall and rich volcanic soils, conditions that encourage slow cherry maturation and the development of vibrant sweetness and complexity in the cup. The surrounding landscape is characterised by lush native vegetation and remarkable biodiversity, creating an ideal environment for sustainable coffee cultivation.

This Milenio F1 Honey lot is the first harvest from a hectare planted when the family acquired the farm. The coffee grows alongside Tithonia diversifolia, commonly known as Botón de Oro (Golden Button), the flowering plant from which the farm takes its name. Beyond its vibrant yellow blooms, the plant plays an important ecological role by providing natural shade, enriching the soil with organic matter and helping to reduce pressure from leaf-cutter ants and other pests.

Only perfectly ripe cherries are hand-harvested before being carefully sorted and floated to remove any lower-density fruit. After pulping, the coffee undergoes a honey process and is dried slowly on shaded raised beds for 7 to 10 days, reaching a final moisture content of 10–11%. The controlled drying preserves sweetness, clarity and balance while allowing the coffee's origin character to shine.

This coffee represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Botón de Oro. It reflects a commitment to thoughtful farming, environmental stewardship and meticulous processing, producing coffees that express both the unique terroir of Turrialba and the remarkable potential of the Milenio F1 variety.

In the cup, expect bright notes of sweet orange, rich caramel sweetness and delicate chamomile, creating an elegant, vibrant and beautifully balanced coffee.
