Karogoto Coffee Factory sits near the town of Karatina in Kenya's renowned Nyeri region. It is one of four wet mills operated by the Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society, which brings together more than 1,700 smallholder members.

This particular lot comes from 1,054 farmers, including 633 men and 421 women, many from the Kikuyu community. Most families cultivate small plots of around half a hectare, growing coffee alongside maize, pasture and livestock to support their households.

Karogoto follows Kenya's traditional washed processing method with a strong focus on precision and quality. Fully ripe cherries are hand-picked, carefully sorted and pulped before undergoing fermentation to remove the remaining mucilage.

The coffee is then thoroughly washed and graded before the parchment is transferred to raised drying beds. Drying takes place slowly over approximately two to three weeks, allowing the coffee to reach a final moisture content of around 10–11.5%.

This careful approach helps preserve the clarity and definition that make Kenyan washed coffees so distinctive.

Karogoto is a classic expression of Nyeri coffee, vibrant and complex, yet beautifully balanced. Expect layered fruit, bright acidity and lingering sweetness, delivered with remarkable clarity and structure.
