Finca Timbuyacu is the life's work of Alfonso Tejada Iberico and his wife, Karim Rosario Araoz Grandez, who returned to Alfonso's family farm in 2010 after selling their travel agency in Lima. The farm's name, derived from the Quechua words "timbu" (boiling) and "yacu" (water), honours a natural spring on the property and the legacy of Alfonso's grandmother, Eleodora Mori de Ibérico, who first cultivated the land.

Determined to build on her legacy, Alfonso and Karim transformed Timbuyacu into a model farm and the foundation of Café Monteverde, an organisation dedicated to supporting smallholder coffee producers throughout the region. Today, the farm serves as a training centre where producers learn best practices in cultivation, harvesting, fermentation and drying, helping to improve both quality and sustainability across their communities.

Despite early predictions that the land was unsuitable for coffee, careful stewardship has seen both yields and quality improve year after year. In 2017, coffees from Timbuyacu earned 12th place in Peru's Cup of Excellence, cementing the farm's reputation for excellence.

Environmental stewardship remains central to the farm's philosophy. Of its 68 hectares, 38 are preserved as native forest, protecting local biodiversity, waterways and soil health. Alongside coffee, Alfonso and Karim continue the family's tradition of cultivating bananas, cassava, beans, pineapples and other crops.

This lot undergoes an extended washed process that highlights both complexity and clarity. After careful hand-picking and pulping, the coffee ferments for an impressive 122 hours before being washed and dried on raised beds and patios for 15–20 days. The parchment then rests for approximately 60 days before milling, allowing flavours to stabilise and develop.

The result is a beautifully expressive coffee with exceptional aromatic depth, vibrant fruit character and the unmistakable influence of a farm built on generations of dedication, innovation and community.
