Nestled in the mountainous Boconó Valley of Venezuela's Trujillo state, Víctor Montilla cultivates coffee across several family-owned haciendas, including El Caotal, El Linaje, Mi Querencia and La Victoria. The land has been passed down through generations, carrying forward a legacy of coffee production deeply rooted in the region.

Among Víctor's most distinctive cultivars is Villanueva, a rare variety native to the neighbouring state of Lara. Originally derived from a natural mutation of the Colombia 23 and Colombia 26 varieties, Villanueva is notable for its striking yellow cherries and unique flavour potential. According to Víctor, the variety thrives in fertile, moisture-rich soils and performs particularly well when processed as a natural or honey coffee, where fermentation enhances its aromatic complexity and expressive character.

Drawing on both tradition and experimentation, Víctor continues to explore the full potential of Villanueva, producing coffees that showcase the diversity, innovation and untapped promise of Venezuelan specialty coffee.
