Set in the rolling highlands of Nandi County in western Kenya, this coffee comes from a network of regional smallholder farmers working with Great Rift Coffee. Grown between 1,600 and 1,800 masl, the coffee benefits from cool temperatures, abundant rainfall and nutrient-rich volcanic soils that slow cherry maturation and encourage the development of dense, flavour-rich beans. Great Rift supports participating farmers with agronomic advice, processing infrastructure and direct market access, placing a strong emphasis on traceability, sustainability and long-term producer relationships.

The lot is composed of Batian and Ruiru 11, processed as an anaerobic natural. Fully ripe cherries are carefully selected before fermenting in sealed, oxygen-limited tanks, allowing naturally occurring yeasts to develop greater fruit intensity while maintaining control over the fermentation. The cherries are then slowly dried to preserve sweetness and clarity, producing a coffee that combines Kenya's vibrant character with the richness and complexity of modern anaerobic processing. Great Rift has invested heavily in controlled processing facilities to ensure consistency across these experimental lots.

In the cup, the result is vibrant, sweet and expressive. Expect notes of spiced plum, purple candy and ripe mango. The anaerobic process enhances the coffee's natural fruit character without overwhelming its origin, creating a profile that remains unmistakably Kenyan  while adding layers of tropical sweetness and confectionery-like complexity.
