Nestled on the fertile slopes of Kenya's Aberdare Range, Gachika Factory is the largest of three washing stations operated by the Kimaratia Farmers Cooperative Society in Kiambu County. Working with around 500 smallholder farmers, the cooperative produces coffees renowned for their consistency, clarity and vibrant fruit character.

Kenya has long set the benchmark for meticulous coffee processing, and Gachika is no exception. Every stage, from cherry selection to drying, is carried out with precision, preserving the distinctive qualities that have made Kenyan coffees among the most sought-after in the world. Alongside quality, the cooperative is committed to sustainability, returning coffee pulp to growers to be composted with cow manure and used as natural fertiliser on their farms.

This lot is produced from a blend of SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11 cultivars. Only ripe cherries are hand-sorted before being pulped and fermented overnight to remove the mucilage. Following fermentation, the parchment is thoroughly washed and graded according to density before being transferred to raised drying beds. Over 12 to 16 days, the coffee is carefully turned and monitored until it reaches the ideal moisture content, resulting in the exceptional cleanliness and transparency that define Kenya's finest washed coffees.

This coffee is a classic expression of Kenyan terroir. Expect vibrant red fruit sweetness layered with juicy blackberry and bright citrus, finishing with delicate violet florals and the lively acidity that has become Kenya's signature.

Balanced by a clean structure and lingering sweetness, it is a beautifully expressive coffee that showcases why Kenyan washed coffees continue to be among the world's most celebrated.

The result is a coffee that celebrates everything loved about Kenyan coffee, clarity, complexity and unmistakable character in every cup.
